The first edition of the BASF-ICIQ Awards for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, recognized the scientific talent in Spain in three categories: best doctoral thesis, patent and entrepreneurship project.

Dr. Mateo obtained his Ph.D. with the thesis entitled “graphene-based photocatalysts for the production of solar fuels” under the supervision of Prof. Hermenegildo Garcia at the Institute of Chemical Technology (UPV-CSIC). After obtaining his PhD, Diego has continued his research career as a Postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. Jorge Gascon at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).
